Day 4: 5 5-minute sgraffito drawings (fingers, business card)

Your challenge is to create 5 sketches, each taking no more than 5 minutes using the business card and fingers again.

Other than the weird mug, this one's ok.

Hmmm... can't help but feel sorry for this child on so many levels... :)

Doesn't look like the scene I passed in the car this morning!

This was a re-do.  It actually looked better the first time without creating any outlines - that was the elusive abstractness I'm looking for, but I just couldn't leave it alone!

This was a fun, yet difficult exercise.  I'm still too literal, too rigid.  When I created these, I didn't think they were very good, but looking back they make me cringe!  Not ready to start signing these yet either.  On the plus side, I'm seeing potential sgraffito subjects everywhere I go.  And, I'm now visiting the Sgraffito Challenge Facebook page more than the Fused Glass Fanatics page.  Kelly has been very gracious, fun, sharing and helpful in this endeavor.  She rocks!

This exercise will be repeated tomorrow and the next day.  Hopefully, I'll loosen up somewhere in the next couple of days.  Perhaps I should have the glass of wine before I sgraffito instead of after!  It's only Day 4.  I still have faith and the hope of an epiphany.

Day 3: Landscape (fingers, business card)

If I could figure out how to get the vegetation on the banks to look good, I think this one is ok.  This one needs some soft color, but that's one more layer that I'm not ready for yet!  The water came out ok.  Day 3 accomplished!

Day 2: Create a tree using only your fingers and a business card.

Day 2: Create a tree using only your fingers and a business card.

Ok, not bad, but still not channeling a "style" I like.  Sort of looks like Amish art to me, that stark cartoonish feel.

Day 1: Create something using only your fingers.

Well, Day 1 of the 30-day Sgraffito Challenge...  hum... what to do... what to do.  Ok, let's start with a tree, I think I can do that.  My trees are fairly proportionally correct, but lack a certain abstraction that would give it some charm.  I do like how the fence came out, though:  it's a suggestion of a fence without being so specific about it's actual construction.  That's the feel that I want for the whole sketch.  Hopefully, I'll figure it out in the next 29 days! :)
